Veteran and ex-prisoner of war, 96 year-old Robbie Clark, could be forced out of his home.

38 Degrees Logo
Dear Peter,

Veteran and ex-prisoner of war, 96 year-old Robbie Clark, could be forced out of his home. Brent Council are refusing to cover the full costs of the care he needs, unless he agrees to go into a residential home. [1]

David, a 38 Degrees member, has started a petition to save Robbie from eviction. Over 55,000 of us have already signed. If enough of us put our names to it, we could shame the council into backing down.

Let’s show the council that we won’t stand by while the elderly bear the brunt of government cuts. If you think that Robbie should be able to stay in his home, sign the petition:

Here’s what David says:

“One of Britain’s oldest surviving prisoners of war faces being forced into a care home against his will after Brent Council refused to pay for his home help. His family said they fear being in a care home would kill him.”

Click here to sign his petition now:

38 Degrees members said that social care for older or disabled people should be one of our top campaigning issues this election. [2] Any of us could need help at some point in our lives - so together, we’re campaigning to make sure everyone gets the care they need, when they need it the most.

If you disagree with David's campaign, or there's another issue close to your heart, you can start your own campaign here:

Thanks for being involved,

Elizabeth, Ali, Laura and the 38 Degrees team

Stand Up to Racism Day 21/3/2015

with acknowledgements to wembley matters http://wembleymatters.blogspot.co.uk/

Today was Stand Up to Racism Day in London, part of the UN's International Day for the
Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It is celebrated on March 21st because that is the day
in 1960 when 69 people were killed by police who opened fire on an anti-pass laws demonstrators
in Sharpville, South Africa.

Sharpville was an event that seared itself on my memory as it did many of my generation. LINK

It was fitting that in an event  founded on marking the crimes of South African apartheid that
Friends of Al AqsaLINK were in Trafalgar Square collecting messages calling for the end of the
apartheid wall in Israel that separates Palestinians from each other and from Israel.

The public were asked to write a message on the wall which included the statement from
Nelson Mandela: 'Our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinian people'.

Although I marched with the Green Party is was good to see

CANNIBAL RESTAURANT OPENS IN WILLESDEN

Demo snd Stall this weekend

United Nations Anti-racism day Saturday 21st March

Stand Up to Racism Demo

Green Block assembly point 11-11:30am BBC Portland Place, Central London. We will have a large BME Greens banner, so you won't be able to miss us!!

Please bring your own banners and placards!!

With the dangerous resurgence of xenophobia, islamophobia, anti-semitism and racism across mainstream European politics and specifically UKIP in the UK, its vital we make a powerful stand with a MASSIVE presence at this demo. We must all work to send a very strong message of solidarity to some of the communities most attacked and scapegoated for the issues we all face, such as a lack of jobs and decent housing.

Pete Murry will have a small Green Party stall at Trafalgar Square, the end point of the demo from 12 noon. He will be glad of any help members and supporters can give.

A Green Party BME Group has been set up from Conference: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Greens-of-Colour/802384239839951

STALL AND LEAFLETING AT QUEEN'S PARK FARMERS' MARKET SUNDAY  22nd March FROM 10AM

Message from Rebecca Johnson, Green Hampstead and Kilburn candidate

CALLING ALL HAMPSTEAD & KILBURN GREENS – SUNDAY MARCH 22, 10.00-1.00 AT QUEENS PARK FARMERS MARKET

Dear Green members and supporters in Brent,

We're launching the Green Campaign to elect Rebecca Johnson as our MP for Hampstead & Kilburn, starting with a stall at the Queens Park Farmers Market on Sunday 22 March, from 10.00 to 1.00,
We'll have leaflets and materials, and with your help plan to fan out from QP Farmers Market in groups of 2 and 3, and talk with people about what issues matter to them, and how Green policies can make a positive difference, from housing, safe streets and public transport to tackling inequality and environmental destruction.

As you probably know,  Hampstead and Kilburn stretches from Hampstead Heath, across 11 Camden wards,  through to South Kilburn and 4 Brent wards. We can't cover everything, but we are keen to connect with as many people as we can in the next 7 weeks before the Election - and beyond!
Please visit our new Hampstead and Kilburn Greens website, which you can access here:

Demonstrate 19/03/2015 vs benefit sanctions

From Unite the Union Community Section

More and more people are facing benefit sanctions. Over 2 million people have had

their money stopped in the past 2 years. 2 million people, many of whom

have been plunged into poverty, unable to heat their homes or even eat.

How is this meant to help prepare people for work?

Benefit sanctions must be fought against

These sanctions are cruel and handed out for ridiculous reasons such as:
  • Arriving minutes late to a meeting
  • Not applying for jobs when waiting to start a new job!
  • Missing an appointment on the day of the funeral of a close family member.
This has to stop
Up and down the country on Thursday 19 March we will be protesting against the
cruel use of sanctions.

Shahrar Ali: We need politicians we can trust

Follwoing the allegations against Ibrahim Taguri and his decision to stand down as Liberal Democrat candidiate for Bretn cntral and to continue to campaign as an independent, Sharhar Ali ma`de the following statement:
This election is now even more widely open than ever imagined. At a meeting last night Dawn Butler spoke of the 'elephant in the room' which was the ' clearing of her name' regarding expenses.

Today we learn  Ibrahim Taguri is under investigation for potential impropriety over advice on electoral donations.

Standing as an independent will not help him. The people of Brent demand nothing less than confidence that their politicians know right from wrong before presuming to serve them.

We need politicians we can trust.
